The meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) will take place on June 1, 2023, in Chisinau, the presidential institution announces. An official invitation to this effect was signed by the president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, and was sent to the heads of state and government of the participating countries.
47 presidents and heads of government, as well as the heads of the European Union, are expected at the event.
“The leaders meeting in Chisinau will discuss joint efforts for peace, in the context of the war in Ukraine and related crises, the defense of democracy, the consolidation of energy security and the resilience of European states”, the press release published by the Presidency states.
The European Political Community was created last year, at the initiative of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. The first CPE meeting was held in Prague in October 2022.
The Head of State announced for the first time that the Republic of Moldova will host the meeting before the press conference held on the evening of October 6, in Prague, together with French President Emmanuel Macron, the initiator of the CPE, and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala.
“The proposal to host the meeting of the 44 leaders of European states and regions in our country emphasizes the unequivocal support of our partners for the European course and future of Moldova. It also reflects the pragmatic and results-oriented character that we want to give to the European Political Community created today. Dear friends, we are waiting for you in Chisinau”, the head of state said on her Facebook page.
According to President Sandu, additional efforts are needed to strengthen European security in the medium and long term.
“The road ahead of us is not easy and only together can we solve these challenges. We will get through this winter, Europe will come out of it much stronger, and we will be ready to welcome you, next spring, in the Republic of Moldova”, said Maia Sandu in Prague.
The President participated on October 6 in Prague, together with the leaders of 43 other European states and governments, at the inauguration of the European Political Community.
