A new stage for the construction of the Regional Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine in Miroslava, Iași county, was successfully completed. The Ministry of Health has completed the first stage of the evaluation of the projects submitted through the PNRR for the construction of hospitals. Out of a total of 46 projects, 42 were declared eligible, with the construction and endowment of the Iasi Regional Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine in 21st place.
If it passes the second stage of project evaluation, the medical unit of regional importance, which is also known as the Iași Heart Institute, will benefit from 179,451,193.46 euros, excluding VAT, from the PNRR budget.
“These days, the new list of the objectives included in the PNRR was published, and the Regional Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine from Miroslava is included in the 21st place. It is eligible, therefore we have passed another stage towards the realization of the project. Given that there is also a second stage of project evaluation, according to the criteria of the Ministry of Health, we move forward with hope to realize this project”, said Prof. Dr. Grigore Tinică, manager of the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases Iași.
He emphasized the importance of building a regional center dedicated to patients with cardiovascular diseases in the North-East of the country.
“(…) For cardiovascular surgery we are the only center in this area of the country and the most important center in terms of interventional cardiology. We are also the only center for electrophysiology. We also have other objectives, such as organ transplantation, children’s surgery, which are to be implemented with the construction of the Regional Institute of Cardiovascular Medicine in Miroslava. Practically, we are the only center in the European Union that has such a vast coverage area, with such a large number of inhabitants”, added Prof. Dr. Grigore Tinică.
Worrying statistics
The value of the construction amounts to 810 million lei, which is why the necessary steps have been taken for this project to be financially supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Program.
“Currently, Romania ranks third in Europe in terms of the number of deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases. In Moldova we have a density of about 45,000 inhabitants per hospital bed, in the rest of the country it is 13,000 inhabitants. We are only asking for what is due to us, and the Romanian state should have thought and done all the necessary diligence for prioritization in the field of health”, declared the president of the Iaşi County Council, Costel Alexe.
The initiator of the project started approximately 15 years ago, university professor Dr. Grigore Tinică, manager of the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, says that the future medical unit will have 27 sections and compartments, seven of which will be a first for Romania.
Currently, the Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Iasi operates on two of the six floors of the “Dr CI Parhon” Hospital in Iasi, which was inaugurated in 1943 as the Social Insurance Hospital in Copou, being at that time the most modern hospital in country and one of the most modern in Central and Eastern Europe. In the same medical unit, there is also a regional dialysis center, as well as the Regional Center for Renal Transplantation.
