The structural relationship of artistic practice and the overlap of a similar impulse in approaching experiential processes, make the two artists synthesize the artistic object in its elementary forms.
The exhibition is curated by Călina Coman
Beniamin Popescu (b. 1989) is a visual artist from Bucharest who incorporates sculptural painting in his recent artistic practice. His works are an exploration of texture and form reminiscent of building structures in an archaeological site. Whether it is a living space, or an old monument, his works examine the concept of a building, of a space in constant transition, where progress and regression meet. The role of a building does not end when it no longer fulfills a practical function for people. Beniamin Popescu challenges us to look at the architectural object in a different way: as a bridge between present, past and future.
Mircea Modreanu (b. 1989) is a visual artist, cultural project manager and gallerist. He attended the courses of the Faculty of Fine Arts at UAD Cluj, and immediately after completing his degree, he reconfigured his route to Bucharest. In 2014 he completed his master’s degree at UNArte’s graphics department and a year later he founded an NGO, representing his debut as a manager of cultural projects. Since 2018, when the ETAJ artist-run space project was born, it has organized exhibitions in the space in Bucharest, at 43 George Enescu Street, where it has invited over 200 artists to date. In the lockdown, as a form of documentation and archiving, he started filming interviews with the artists that he uploaded to the YouTube channel ETAJ TV; is the coordinator of ETAJ Magazine, a publication launched out of the desire to promote contemporary art and local artists.
The exhibition is open, with free entry, from September 8 to October 29, 2022, from Tuesday to Friday, between 1 pm and 7 pm and on Saturday between 11 am and 4 pm. The collection of works of the exhibition is available for sale through the AnnArt gallery.
