Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, declared, on Wednesday, in the joint press conference with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă, in Castellón, that they will send 130 soldiers and eight military planes to carry out actions in the Black Sea.

Therefore, Spain’s commitment to security on NATO’s eastern flank is clear, said the Spanish prime minister, stating that he reiterates his country’s support for Romania’s accession to the Schengen area.

“We will send 130 soldiers and eight military planes to carry out actions in the Black Sea. Therefore, Spain’s commitment to security on NATO’s eastern flank is clear,” said the Spanish Prime Minister.

For his part, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă thanked for the decision that Spain took to strengthen the presence of the Spanish armed forces on the eastern flank.

“It is a decision that represents the result of the NATO summit in Madrid, the result of the implementation of the new NATO strategic concept. Here, we are already discussing the presence of a radar on the eastern flank. But it is very important to emphasize that not long from now eight fighter planes will be present in Romania”, said Ciucă.

The Spanish Prime Minister also referred to Romania’s accession to the Schengen area.

“We are determined to have a Europe without internal borders, that’s why I’m glad that on several occasions the Commission has emphasized that Romania meets all the conditions to be included in the Schengen area and we reiterate our support in this area”, he stated.
