Latin America, more precisely South America and Central America, has become the most sought-after area after the European one, by Romanian tourists with incomes from average to above, amateurs of premium tourism, informs the travel agency DAL Travel. The top of the countries in South and Central America is currently led by Mexico. The next requested destinations are Ecuador – Galapagos, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Chile – Easter Island, Bolivia, Panama, Costa Rica and Colombia.

“We started to design packages for Latin America in 2006, therefore, for 15 years. The demand has been growing constantly. Currently, we are seeing the highest growth in the demand for premium tourism for this destination, especially since in Asia – in especially in the Far East – there are still restrictions. We also have an increase in requests for the African continent, but for Latin America we observe a greater diversity of options, most of the countries on this continent being preferred by Romanian tourists. Romanian tourists choose Latin America for biodiversity, culture, atmosphere, rich and varied gastronomy, exotic landscapes, corals and activities related to the beach and water (swimming, snorkeling, diving). We only travel to safe places, and group tours in these countries are an extra guarantee”. underlines Daniela Nedelcu, general director of DAL Travel.

In general, tourists prefer to visit several countries when they cross the ocean, but there are also tourists who want to visit certain countries in more detail, and Latin America offers a lot. During the pandemic, the circuits in Colombia and Costa Rica enjoyed great success.

According to DAL Travel, 60% of tourists choose the circuits that combine several countries in Latin America and the remaining 40%, the circuits that target a single country. For the second category, the most requested countries were Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Colombia and, until two years ago, Brazil (this due to pandemic restrictions).

“This year, as in previous years, we organized circuits in Mexico and Peru. In the past we organized a circuit in Brazil, which is so big that we successfully did a Total Brazil. The tourist packages that include several countries in America Latin is very successful. For example, we had several groups in September in Panama – Colombia – Ecuador – Galapagos and in Mexico – Guatemala – Honduras. The first group has already left for Central America: Panama – Costa Rica – Nicaragua – El Salvador – Honduras and in a few days the next group will leave on the same itinerary. Currently, the most requested circuit at the end of November is Peru – Colca – Nazca. Within this circuit, most of the tourist attractions that offers them this destination, such as the famous Machu Picchu, the mysterious Nazca lines, the Ballesta Islands, Colca Canyon, Lake Titicaca, Cusco, Puno, Valle Sagrado de los Incas and many others”, states Daniela Nedelcu .

When and how can Latin American countries be visited?

For South America, the seasons correspond to the southern hemisphere, which basically means that summer runs from December to March, autumn from April to June, winter from July to September and then spring from September to December again. But as the weather has changed around the world, some countries can be visited at other times. Some destinations are closer to the equator and, for this reason, are sought after all year round, such as Ecuador and Peru. Tourists should know that the optimal time to visit Latin America depends on the desired destination. It has an enormous extent and varies from the driest desert in the world to the peaks of the Andes or the forests of the Amazon. Weather variations are often regional rather than seasonal.
