David Popovici is ready for a new adventure! After making a sensation at the World Senior Championships in Budapest and the Junior European Championships in Otopeni, the CS Dinamo athlete will participate in the Senior Championships in Rome. The Romanian swimmer will participate in three events in Rome, one of which is a big surprise.

David Popovici announced which are the three events in which he will participate at the European Swimming Championships

David Popovici went through a superb period. He returned with two gold medals from the World Championships where he prevailed in the 100 and 200 meter freestyle events, and then continued his representation at the European Junior Championships in Otopeni, where he competed encouraged by the Romanian fans.

For the athlete from CS Dinamo, the European Senior Championships in Rome follow. The club where he is active has announced the three events in which we will see one of Romania’s best swimmers: 100, 200 and 400 meters freestyle. If the first two were clear, Popovici being considered the main favorite in the races in which he won the gold in Budapest, the third choice is a surprise.

Many would have expected him to compete in the 50 meters freestyle, where he won two European junior titles (Rome 2021 and Otopeni 2022), but the athlete decided, after consulting with coach Adrian Rădulescu, to compete in the 400 meters free.

At 50 meters, the competition is not very strong, so Popovici wants to force himself into a more serious company. The national record in the 400-meter freestyle is held by Dragoş Coman, who managed to stop the clock in 2005, in Montreal, at 3 minutes, 46 seconds and 70 tenths.

“Medals have never been a goal for me since I was little. They never will be, I think. It’s always important to feel good and try to become the best version of myself.

These will always remain the goals, if they ever change, something wrong has happened. I think the only pressure that comes and that I somehow accept is that of being a good leader for my team”said David Popovici, after the world championships in Budapest, explaining what his strategy is.

The competitions will start on August 11, and our athlete will enter the pool for the first time on the 12th, in the 100 meters freestyle series. His goal is to get the gold medals in his favorite events that brought him to the world’s attention at the Worlds in Budapest.
