NATO is deploying elements of its rapid reaction force and will continue to send weapons to Ukraine, including air defense, North Atlantic Alliance Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday night after the end of the NATO summit organized by videoconference in the context of the Russian military invasion on Ukraine , reports Reuters, according to Agerpres.

At a news conference in Brussels, Stoltenberg said Russia was trying to oust the Kiev government.

“We are now deploying NATO’s reactionary force for the first time in the context of collective defense,” the Alliance’s secretary-general said.

According to a statement issued at the end of the summit, the heads of state of NATO member states agreed to continue to take all necessary measures and decisions to ensure the security and defense of all allies.

The Allies had consultations under Article 4 of the Washington Treaty. NATO leaders urge Russia to immediately halt its military offensive, withdraw all forces from Ukraine, stressing that this long-planned brutal attack on Ukraine, an independent, peaceful and democratic country, has been carried out without any challenge and without any justification.

Allied leaders reaffirm their solidarity with the democratically elected President, Parliament and Government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

NATO also remains committed to all the fundamental principles underlying European security, including the right of each country to choose its own security agreements.
