Work on the Romanian Fagaras-Brasov section of the 130 km Brasov-Sibiu highway is scheduled to start early this year.

Last summer, the state-owned road construction and management company CNAIR signed a planning contract for the 43 km long Fagaras-Brasov section of the severely delayed motorway. Catalin Drula, Transport Minister, noted at the time the Fagaras-Brasov section of the A3 Transylvania motorway was auctioned off this spring after being abandoned for 10 years.

The cost of the entire Brasov-Sibiu highway is estimated at around €1.47 (US$1.7 billion). The construction of the Sibiu-Fagaras section of the Brasov-Sibiu highway is reportedly at an advanced stage.
