Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow clan defender Liam Stenton led the UK U20 team to a bronze medal at the World Championships.

The 20-year-old, who has a two-way deal with Solway Sharks, scored two points during the week as GB finished the group in third place.

But after a brilliant start to the week with wins over Spain and Lithuania, it ended in disappointment as they lost to Korea, then faced Romania before the season ended in a 3-2 loss to Italy, which eventually became Division II Group A won.

Coach Martin Grubb, who also coaches Solway, preferred to review the positive of the week.

“We only had two guys on our team who had won a medal and four who had previously played in a World Cup,” he told Ice Hockey UK.

“In addition to the pandemic and even the uncertainty of going to Romania, we were able to win a medal.

“Although we are disappointed with the color, the players will learn and grow from the experience.”
