The turf on the Cluj Arena stadium, recently completely changed, will be inaugurated on Monday, October 8 this year, by holding a match between the University of Cluj and FC Brașov, starting with 17:30.

We remind you that in 2011, the first official football match on the turf of the newly built arena by the Cluj County Council was also played between the two teams.

Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council: “The old turf has done its full duty, hosting hundreds of matches and other successful events. The new lawn is in excellent condition and is ready for use. As far as we are concerned, we have taken all the necessary steps so that the resumption of sports competitions on Cluj Arena can take place as soon as possible ”.

In the ten years since its inauguration, the emblematic stadium of Cluj and the whole of Transylvania, Cluj Arena has hosted an impressive number of events that have gathered millions of spectators from all over the world.

Thus, from the date of the first official sporting event until the time of the replacement of the turf, no less than 239 football, rugby and American football matches took place on the Cluj arena. At the same time, there were 12 competitions in the field of athletics, of which six editions of the International Championships of Romania, four editions of National Championships for seniors, youth, juniors, one edition of the Balkan Championships for seniors and one of the European Team Championships.

Also, on Cluj Arena were organized 13 matches of the national football and rugby teams. In this sense, the tricolor matches with the representatives from Spain, Chile, Denmark or Montenegro, those of the Romanian women’s national football team with the Czech Republic and Italy, respectively the seven games of the senior rugby national team in the European Championship and the European Cup Nations.

The stadium in Cluj was, in fact, the host of Champions League competitions (matches of the Romanian women’s soccer champion – U Olimpia Cluj) and the European League (matches of the Pandurii Tg. Jiu team).

Over time, Cluj Arena has become the ideal setting for organizing artistic events with a large number of participants such as Forza ZU, Untold festival, concerts of famous bands and artists such as: Scorpions, Smokie, Roxette, Deep Purple , UB40, Dream Theater, Andrea Bocelli, Depeche Mode, etc.
