The Shanghai domain ranking includes the top 500 universities in the world for each of the 54 domains analyzed. In the category Natural Sciences – Physics, Transilvania University of Brașov ranks 401-500, next to the West University of Timișoara. Unlike last year, in this year’s Shanghai top, there are fewer Romanian universities. If last year 9 higher education institutions were listed as having a high performance and research, this year, 8 universities managed to reach the established indicators, respectively: results, quality and influence of research, international collaboration and international academic awards. Besides the Transilvania University of Brașov, among the Romanian universities, in the top are also the Babeș Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca, the University of Bucharest, the Western University, the Medical Universities of Cluj, Bucharest and Timișoara and USAMV Cluj Napoca. Transilvania University of Brașov entered the Shanghai Top for the first time, in 2020. The Top is led by the largest universities, such as Oxford, Princeton, Cambridge, MIT, etc. In total, the ranking includes 1,800 universities in 93 countries around the world.
