The Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEAT) announces that it has notified itself in case of suspension of the activity of the Greek travel agency Mouzenidis Travel Greece, which, by interrupting the services between June 18 and July 31, 2021, damaged 1,303 Romanians who were to spend vacation in Greece, with a total amount of about 450,000 euros.

The Ministry of Economy says in a press release sent on Friday that a dialogue has begun with the Greek authorities and additional high-level clarifications have been requested in connection with protection measures for Romanian tourists whose holidays have been affected, with the emphasis on levers through which the Greek government can intervene in unblocking the crisis, and to convey a firm position regarding the declaration of insolvency of the economic operator.

If the hypothesis is true and Mouzenidis Travel Greece declared its insolvency, the damaged Romanians could benefit from protection. According to art. 17, para. (1) of Directive (EU) 2015/2302 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2015 on packages of travel services and associated travel services, “Member States shall ensure that organizers established in their territory provide guarantees for the reimbursement of all payments performed by or on behalf of the passengers, insofar as the relevant services are not provided due to the insolvency of the organizer ”, states the Ministry of Economy.

“We call on the country’s intermediate travel agencies, partners Mouzenidis Travel Greece, which have facilitated the purchase of holidays, to continue to provide assistance to affected customers and we thank them for their initiative, in response to the crisis, to pay from “In return, MEAT will support efforts to recover the amounts paid to the Greek travel agency,” said representatives of the Ministry of Economy, stating that they will return with information as the dialogue with the Greek authorities progresses.
